Free Roam. Finish a book and its map reopens with the story lifted off it: every door open, no objectives, nobody left but the traders. What lives out there is rolled fresh each time you re-enter a zone, and each creature wears the level it rolled at, so a fight can be sized up before it is taken. Offered the moment you finish a book, and reachable any time after from the green door.

Champions. One creature in a zone may be larger, gold-plated and several levels above the rest — worth crossing a zone for, and it always leaves a token.

Tokens. One per kind of creature per book, worth nothing at all, which is the point. The satchel keeps count.

New Game Plus. Once all four books are read, Settings offers a second reading: the hero keeps everything, the books go back unread, and what lives in them rises to meet somebody who has been through once already. Each further round raises it again, up to a limit.

Rewards. Free roam pays experience in full but holds gold back while any book is still unread, so a finished map cannot bankroll a story that has not been started. Read all four and gold pays in full.

Audio. Three new spoken lines for Pip at the shelf.

Fixed:

  • The Training Grounds are reachable from anywhere again, including from inside a free-roam map, and put you back where you were standing.
  • The closing scene can no longer be missed by choosing to stay in the last book.
  • The green door handles both entry and exit itself, so no control in the HUD changes meaning depending on where you are standing.
  • A voice line that stopped short of its final sentence now plays in full.

Also in this build, from the work that preceded it: battles can hold more than one creature, enemies position themselves with some idea of what they are doing, terrain blunts a shot taken across it, leftover action points can be spent on bracing, and the tiles a foe can reach are drawn before you stand on them.
